The Friends of George Wright is a citizens advocacy group formed in 2004 to preserve and enhance the George
Wright Golf Course in collaboration with the Mayor and the Parks Department of the City of Boston.
City parks like the George Wright Golf Course can no longer be maintained solely by city government; they instead
require public-private partnerships. In the past Friends groups have served as a resource and helpmate to the
Boston Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the care and governance of city parkland. The
Friends of George Wright following in suit of organizations like the Friends of the Public Library and the Friends of
the Public Garden want to help support the George Wright Golf Course. Individuals, civic groups, foundations and
corporations, city and state governments must help to keep and maintain these valuable green spaces for future
generations.
